In just under 20 years Calgary's population has grown by 80 per cent. The population is expected to grow an additional nine per cent over the next five years, and an additional 19 per cent over the next 10 years.
To accommodate for this growth, Calgary had to expand its boundary. The Fish Creek West land now lies within the city boundary. It is adjacent to established communities and is within an established growth corridor. The land is a part of the City of Calgary's Utilities and Approved Community Plans 2008. This will ultimately cause the appreciation of the Fish Creek West land, without the excessive risk and cost, associated with planning and development process for less strategically located lands.
